Male breast reduction is the removal of fat and glandular tissue from a man’s chest wall. The appearance of male breasts can be troubling for many men. Although male breast reduction is not the solution in every case, for the right candidate the results can be very satisfying.
Male Breast Reduction: Who can benefit?
A relatively common hormone imbalance known as gynecomastia affects males, causing buildup of sensitive excess tissue in the breast area. Underlying causes of this condition should be investigated prior to surgery. If gynecomastia cannot be resolved through lifestyle changes, surgery may be an option.
Male breast reduction is not recommended for the obese man. You should reach a stable weight before considering a surgery such as this.
Male breast reduction: What’s involved?
Surgery requires an incision around the pigmented area of your nipple. Your plastic surgeon will then remove fat and glandular tissue using liposuction. After male breast reduction, you will need to wear a special compression garment to reduce swelling.
You may exhibit minor scarring around the areolas, which will fade significantly over time.
Bruising and swelling will make it difficult to appreciate the results, but once recovery is complete you will exhibit a flatter, more masculine chest. To learn more about gynecomastia and male breast reduction, contact Dr. Genter’s office in Philadelphia and Montgomery County.
