Dysport, the new wrinkle treatment is now available at our plastic surgery office in
Philadelphia County. Though Dysport has been available in Europe and New Zealand for years, FDA approval came for the United States in 2009. Dysport is composed of botulinum toxin type A, which means it is very similar to Botox.
Dysport: Who can benefit?
If you exhibit lines and wrinkles on your forehead or around your eyes, Dysport may be a good solution. Dysport is a neuromuscular wrinkle blocker; it blocks the transmission of acetylcholine, a chemical that tells your facial muscles to contract. After Dysport injection, those tiny muscles relax, allowing undesired facial lines and wrinkles to flatten out.
Treatment takes only 10-20 minutes in Dr. Genter’s office. The injections are comfortable. Patients say they feel no worse than an insect bite.
Dysport Results: What to Expect
The results will be noticeable within a week, and they’ll last as long as 6 months. When the results are no longer noticeable, you can return for another treatment.
Your facial expressions will maintain a natural appearance. The dose of botulinum toxin contained in Dysport and Botox is very small. It is intended to paralyze small, isolated muscles – not large regions of your face.
Possible side effects include numbness, bruising, swelling, a slight burning sensation, muscle weakness or a drooping eyelid.
