We offer a carbon dioxide laser treatment for people with sun-damaged skin, fine wrinkles and acne scars. CO2 Laser treatments are performed here in our office under local anesthesia and light sedation.
The C02 laser produces a ray of light – a column – that removes the top layers of damaged skin. As the outer layers of skin get removed, blemishes and imperfections get removed as well.
CO2 Laser Treatment: Who can benefit?
Your skin needs to be evaluated before laser treatment. We examine your skin thickness, texture, and type, while also evaluating the imperfections that are a problem for you. Co2 lasers are typically used to treat the following conditions:
- Acne scars
- Sun damage and spots
- Lines around the mouth and eyes
- Some precancerous skin growths
Laser Skin Resurfacing: How does it work?
During treatment, the Co2 laser emits bursts of energy that vaporize or ablate the skin cells in a precise, uniform manner as Dr. Genter applies it to your skin. The outermost layers of dull, dead skin are removed with the laser. After your laser treatment, your body’s natural healing response allows fresh new skin to emerge.
In most cases, only one laser treatment is necessary. Depending on your reasons for laser resurfacing, the doctor may recommend a series of treatments.
After Co2 Laser Treatment
Redness after the procedure will gradually fade to a light pink, which can then be concealed with foundation. Any pink skin discoloration should be gone within 1-3 months. It is best to expect modest improvements, rather than a complete correction of sun damage or wrinkles.
